本日、翻訳いたしました『ラスタスへのオード』が出版されました。ニュージーランド人を始め、世界中の人々によく知られ、愛されていたマックスと彼の最愛の黒猫ラスタスのお話です。そんなふたりの共に歩んだ人生と死が"オード(詩)"として語られた一冊を英語と日本語のバイリンガルでお楽しみいただければ幸甚です。とくに、猫好きさん、バイク好きさん、ニュージーランド好きさん、バイリンガル絵本好きさん、愛でてやってくださいませ。
ラスタス君は、日本では雑誌『シンラ』の表紙にもなった猫ちゃんです。

This is a story about Max and his beloved black cat, Rastus, who were loved by New Zealanders and people all around the world. For years they rode as a team with Rastus always firmly ensconced on the front of his master, Max's motorbike wearing his trademark helmet and red spotted scarf. At Christmas, this was replaced with antlers and everyone got pleased. Rastus, adopted by Max as a kitten at a swap meet, loyally followed the master every day of his life, even on his motorbike, of course. They happily traveled New Zealand's roads together day after day until being visited by a sudden road accident. On 20th January 1998, a tragedy struck Max and Rastus while they were doing what they loved (riding their motorbike together). A gem where their life together and death is told in an "ODE".
ニュージーランド人を始め、世界中の人々に愛されていたマックスと彼の最愛の黒猫ラスタスのお話です。ふたりは何年もチームを組んでマスターのマックスのバイクに乗っていました。いつもトレードマークのヘルメットと赤い水玉のスカーフをしてバイクのフロント部分にしっかりとつかまっていたラスタス。クリスマスにはトナカイの角を着けてみんなを楽しませていました。子猫の時に不用品交換会でマックスに引き取られたラスタスは、忠誠を尽くして毎日マスターに従ったのです。 もちろんバイクの上でも。ふたりは来る日も来る日もニュージーランドの道路を満足そうにバイクで飛ばしていました。ところがある日、突然のバイク事故に見舞われてしまいます。1998年1月20日、悲劇がマックスとラスタスを襲いました。大好きなこと(一緒にバイクに乗ること)をしている最中に。そんなふたりの共に歩んだ人生と死が"オード(詩)"として語られた珠玉の一冊。 ４００ １６５ ２７０ １１１
