Another powerful film by an Austrian director, Michael Haneke（ミヒャエル・ハネケ）, whose "The Piano Teacher（ピアニスト）" was also big and controversial. Shot in stunning black and white, "The White Ribbon" succeeds in depicting a series of tragic and mysterious incidents that took place in a small farming village sometime before World War I. One of the most thought provoking films.
